PALAKKAD: Tribal students of Attappady Hills are facing shortage of accommodation in the 10 tribal hostels run by the Government. The 10 hostels run by the Government for both boys and girls can accommodate only 800 students. But they already house 1,400 students. Hundreds of students living in distant tribal hamlets are waiting for accommodation. Officials of the Integrated Tribal Development Project in Agali who run these hostels said the lack of infrastructure facilities was affecting the studies of the students. There are four hostels in Pudur panchayat, four in Agali and two in Sholayur panchayat. Accommodation for at least 1,000 students will have to be created in Attappady to meet the demand, the officials said.
