NEW DELHI: Double Grandmaster-norm holder Parimarjan Negi scored the biggest victory of his career by beating Ukrainian GM Zahar Efimenko and kept alive chances of his GM-title norm after six rounds of the San Marino International Open chess championship in San Marino, Italy, on Friday. Negi, seeded 50th in the field of 146, upstaged third seeded Efimenko rated 203 points higher at 2648 and a member of Ukraine's Olympiad squad, with white pieces to reach four points. Three more rounds remain in this Swiss league event. Nine players led with five points. It was also a pleasant day for the other two Indians, S. Vijayalakshmi (4) and her younger sister S. Meenakshi (3.5). Vijayalakshmi drew with 20th seeded Georgian GM Davit Shengelia while Meenakshi defeated Israel's Ilya Khmelniker. Even in the fifth round, the Indians recorded creditable results. Vijayalakshmi drew with Russian Grandmaster Vladmir Epishin, Negi defeated Italy's Daniyyl Dvirnyy with black pieces and Meenakshi got the better of another Italian Adriatik Kanina.
