Tribal women take over forest land

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: About 30 women belonging to the Scheduled Tribes planted coconut and turmeric saplings on forest land at Olakara near Peechi on Friday, according to the police.

Forest officials and police intervened and dissuaded them from taking over the land, according to the Additional District Magistrate-in-charge Abdu Rahman.

Mr. Abu Rahman said that forest officials would hold talks with the women on Saturday in order to settle the issue.
