K. Gopalan dead

KOZHIKODE: K. Gopalan, socialist, freedom fighter, former Rajya Sabha member and former president of the State Janata Dal, died at his residence in Kozhikode on Friday. He was 89. He is survived by four children.

Mr. Gopalan was a former member of the erstwhile Madras Legislature Council and had also served as State secretary of the undivided Congress. He was also a former AICC member. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahammed, Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, IUML leader M.K. Muneer and Mayor M. Bhaskaran visited Mr. Gopalan's residence.
