Go for labour reforms, CII tells Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has expressed concern at the existing labour practices in the State and said these had failed to keep pace with the present needs and hampered economic growth.

The point was raised by CII Madhya Pradesh Chairman Sunil Chordia during a meeting with State Labour Commissioner Rajnish Vaish at Indore on Thursday.

In a statement here, the CII said it had been urging the State Government go ahead with the labour reforms to promote a healthy entrepreneurial climate without waiting for the Central Government to act.

"Labour reforms at the State level have the potential of transforming local economies, attracting greater foreign investment, creating new opportunities and accelerating economic growth. Fixed-term contractual employment should be permitted in relation to the business needs and contract labour should also be allowed in non-core activities without any registration and licensing procedure," the CII emphasised.
