Governor's nod for modified Bill
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL:
Manipur Governor S.S. Sidhu has given his assent to the modified Manipur Legislative (Removal of Disqualification) Fourth Amendment Bill, 2006. Following this, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and senior Ministers on Thursday held a meeting to chalk out further plans.
Saves 8 MLAs
This new Act will save eight ruling party MLAs, who are said to be holding offices of profit. They allegedly hold posts in several corporations and government undertakings. Opposition parties had demanded their disqualification.
The Governor returned the original Bill, passed on May 29, for reconsideration.
He felt it lacked clarity and specifics. A special session of the Assembly on Monday passed the modified Bill.
