Body of IAS officer's son exhumed

Investigation revealed that Ram Acharya committed suicide on March 11

BANGALORE: The police have unravelled the mystery over the disappearance of technocrat Ram Acharya (27), son of S.M. Acharya, senior IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre presently working as Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Urban Development, New Delhi.

Investigation revealed that on March 11 Ram Acharya committed suicide by jumping in front of train at Byappanahalli railway police station limits. As the victim's identity was not known then, the police had buried the body at Kallapalli burial grounds.

After establishing the identity, Ram Acharya's body was exhumed on Friday and was handed over to his family. The body was later cremated, the police said.

On March 11, the police had found a body, with the head severed, on the railway track near Lottegollahalli.

As the identity of the person was not known, the police kept the body at the Bowring Hospital mortuary for five days and later buried it.

Four days after Ram Acharya, a resident of an apartment complex in Dollars Colony, went missing, his family members lodged a complaint with the Sanjayanagar police.

Subsequently, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) took over the investigation.

During the investigation, the CCB staff enquired with the railway police whether they had buried bodies of any unidentified young men in the past few months.

The CCB staff learnt that an unidentified young man was run over by a train in Byappanahalli railway police station limits on March 11.

The Byappanahalli railway police, who had preserved the clothes that worn by the unidentified person, showed them to the Acharyas on Thursday night and they identified them as that of Ram Acharya.
