Power shutdown today, tomorrow

Owing to maintenance works by BESCOM there will be no power supply in some areas on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The areas that will be affected are ISRO Layout, Bikasipura, Kumaraswamy Layout 2nd Stage, Yelachenahalli, Temple Tree Apartment and surrounding areas.

There will be no power on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Vinayakanagara, Vikasnagar, Vidyanagara, Rukmininagar, Chokkasandra, Maruthi Layout and surrounding areas.

Financial assistance

Raghavendra Seva Samiti has invited applications from poor but meritorious Brahmin students studying PU and above, including those pursuing Vedic studies, for award of financial assistance. Hostel facility

The Brahamana Vidyarthi Sahaya Sangha is offering free hostel facility to poor Brahmin students studying in various educational institutions in the city. Application forms can be had from the sangha at 35, N.S. Iyengar Street, Seshadripuram. The last date for receiving the forms is June 20. For more information, call 23349979.

Vocational training

The People's Education Society is conducting a free vocational training programme as part of its community development project for school dropouts and students from underprivileged sections of society. The course provides theoretical and practical aspects of DTP, Internet and screen printing. For details, call 9844752240 or 26722448 (extension 226).

Fine imposed

A team of officials led by BMP Joint Commissioner (East) N. Jayaram imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the owners of Leela Palace for dumping construction material on the road in front of it.

According to a release, the contractors of the building being constructed next to the hotel had dumped the material on the road damaging the pavement and causing inconvenience to the public.
