Bidar: Tension prevailed at Dhummansur in Humnabad taluk on Saturday after rumours that an idol at the Hanuman temple had been damaged spread in the village. Some people who visited the temple found the sandalwood paste smeared on the idol had fallen off. Suspecting that miscreants had damaged the idol, the villagers staged a rasta roko seeking an inquiry into the "incident". They demanded that the miscreants be arrested and a compound constructed around the temple. The Government should help them in repairing the idol or installing a new one, they said. Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil, Superintendent of Police K.L. Sudhir and other officials urged the villagers to withdraw their agitation. They asked them not to pay heed to rumours. Mr Moudgil said that he would take up their demands with the Government. The protestors submitted a memorandum to the officials and dispersed. Basavaraj Patil Humnabad, MLC, promised the villagers that he would release Rs. 1 lakh from his local area development fund to build a compound around the temple. Former MLA Rajshekar Patil, and Janata Dal (Secular) leader Parameshwar Arya were present.
