CHENNAI: A sensitisation programme was organised by the Chennai division of Southern Railway here on Saturday to enhance the professional competency and reorient the Railway Protection Force personnel towards public safety. According to Divisional Railway Manager G. Narayanan, the programme was necessary in view of the amendments in the RPF and Railways Act, which entrusted the RPF personnel with providing security to passengers travelling in trains and at station premises. The programme, he said, would be followed by counselling, role-play with a holistic approach on wellness care. P. Senthilnathan, director, Sparks Development Group and V. Renukadevi of Ethiraj College addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of attitudinal change and the the new role to be played by the RPF. R. Nataraj, Additional DGP, G.M.P. Reddy, Chief Security Commissioner, Southern Railway and B. Mohan, CSC, Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, stressed the need for a humane approach, courteous behaviour and empathy towards the aged and women passengers by RPF personnel.
