NEW DELHI: Parimarjan Negi's quest for the Grandmaster title norm suffered a setback when he went down to Brazilian GM Giovanni Vescovi in the eighth and penultimate round of the San Marino International Open chess tournament in San Marino on Saturday. Negi, who remains on five points, now faces an uphill task of beating Moldova's GM Dmitry Svetushkin with black pieces in the final round to become a GM. The day also saw S. Vijayalakshmi (4.5 points) and S. Meenakshi (3.5) end up on the losing side. Vijayalakshmi lost to the young Filipino GM Mark Paragua and Meenakshi surrendered to Poland's Jacek Stopa. Varuzhan Akobian led the field with seven points.
