Three CITU men killed in Chamba

SHIMLA: Three CITU activists were allegedly killed by the "hired goons" of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) executing the construction work of Chamera III Power Project in Chamba district, claimed the State CPI-M and CITU here on Sunday.

The State CITU leader Mr. Jagat Ram while addressing a press conference here said, the trade union leaders were going home after organising a day-long protest for the implementation of labour laws at the Dakog Dam Site when they were attacked by the criminals with iron rods. They were allegedly thrown into the river and were found dead.

The State Committee of the CITU gave a call for a one-day strike at all the hydro project construction sites in the State.

A massive rally of workers affiliated to CITU was also organised in the State Capital.

The dead include the district CITU secretary Mr. Babu Ram and his two associates Dhami and Vijay. A fourth worker Pramod Kumar who was also badly beaten up managed to escape and was the first one to inform his co-workers. More than 3000 workers are working in this 231 MW hydel project.
