Alleges intimidation of kin of victims of post-Godhra carnage

JAIPUR: Social activist Teesta Setalvad has accused Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of misusing Government machinery to intimidate the kin of the victims of the post-Godhra carnage. "Things have not improved much in Gujarat since the days of the pogrom. The low intensity terror continues," she said.

Addressing mediapersons at the Pink City Press Club here on Sunday, Ms. Setalvad, Editor of "Communalism Combat", alleged that terror continued in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Gujarat while no Opposition party, including the Congress, was even trying to pose a challenge to the communal agenda of Mr. Modi. "It is not because of the people. At least 50 per cent of the 5-crore population in Gujarat wants peace and harmony but the administration would not let them have it there," she said.

"It had been all in the making in Gujarat for the past five years preceding the Godhra," Ms. Setalvad said talking about the big communal divide in that State. However the silver lining about the Gujarat riot cases was that for the first time some justice could be done to the victims and their families.
