Sir, — The Indian Medical Association wishes to congratulate Minister for Health R. Ashok for dismissing those medical officers who have been unauthorisedly absent from duty for long periods. This will help instil a sense of discipline among government medical officers.

Monsoon woes

Sir, — The open drain in front of our house on 6th Cross, MSR Nagar, Mathikere, is filled with mud. The drain overflows minutes after it rains and water enters our house. The small roads in Malleshpalya (off BEML-Thippasandra area) and other small crossroads parallel to these have not been asphalted. These roads become slushy the moment it rains. The authorities concerned should take steps to asphalt the roads at the earliest.

Clear garbage

Sir, — A covered drain that passes between 27th Cross and 28th Cross in Banashankari 2nd stage has become a dumping ground for rubbish owing to the illegal construction of a wall. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike authorities do not clear the garbage regularly, and with the onset of the monsoon the situation will become worse. I urge authorities to demolish the wall and clear the garbage.

Library needed

Sir, — There is no library in Mahaganapathynagar. Students in the area will benefit from a library and will not need to travel far to visit one. A library can be set up either in Mahaganapathynagar, Shivanagar or at Srimanjunathanagar.
