Letters to the Editor
This refers to Union Social Justice Minister Meira Kumar's statement that the Government is considering raising reservation for Scheduled Castes from 15 to 16.23 per cent following the increase in their population (June 12). The reason for the proposed increase defies logic. It will only intensify the agony of the unreserved category. Instead of fuelling the already raging controversy over quota, attempts should be made to set it at rest.
K.V. Seetharamaiah,
The Government, it seems, is practising the policy of reverse discrimination against the so-called "higher castes." The policy of reservation aims at quantitative equality and not qualitative parity. It is a menace and should be done away with at the earliest.
Diksha Kaustubhi,
