Special Correspondent
Srikakulam: District Collector V.N. Vishnu who convened a meeting with representatives of political parties at the ZP conference hall here on Monday, explained to them the election schedule, gave details of arrangements made and sought their cooperation for the smooth conduct of election. A feature of election this time is the random selection of polling personnel just before the election date. So even polling personnel would not be aware of the place of their work.
Free and fair
Polling personnel would also be given training to ensure free and fair election, Mr. Vishnu said, requesting the representatives to follow guidelines issued by the Election Commission. Responding to issues raised by TDP district unit president Tammineni Sitaram, the Collector promised to issue orders to officials not to go ahead with works, already sanctioned but not commenced yet. No new works would be sanctioned, nor pensions, house sites or personal loans issued, the Collector said. Mr. Sitaram and Choudary Tejeswara Rao of the CPI (M) pointed at the irregularities in the formation of ZPTCs, MPTCs, reservations and location of polling centres. Mr. Vishnu, however, said as the Election Commission had issued notification after taking into consideration all aspects, nothing could be done now. Routhu Sitarama Swamy, Mamidi Srikanth of the Congress, P. Venugopal of the BJP attended the meeting.
