Anand keeps title

NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand overpowered World champion Veselin Topalov 2.5-1.5 to retain the Magistral Ciudad de Leon active chess title in Leon on Sunday night.

Anand's 50-move victory in the second game of the four-game final provided the decisive difference. The other three games ended in draws, where Anand looked better off.

Anand, now a six-time winner in Leon, collected his third title of the year to go with the Corus title in January and the Amber crown in March.

The victory could not come at a better time for Anand whostruggled in Sofia and Turin in the past month.
