Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Government should empower the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) with statutory powers to initiate action against officials who are reluctant to use Kannada in administration, new KDA Chairman Siddalingaiah has said.

Addressing presspersons after taking charge, Prof. Siddalingaiah said the policy on use of Kannada in administration could not be implemented until the authority was given executive powers. The KDA had been helpless on this score as it was could only make recommendations. Besides strengthening the KDA, the Government should stop use of other languages in administration, he said.
