CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Forests Development Corporation has registered a turnover of about Rs.15 crore for the year 2005-06, which is 16 per cent more than that of last year, the Haryana Minister of State for Forests, Kiran Choudhry, said here on Monday. She said that the gross profit earned by the Corporation rose from about Rs.1.35 crores in 2004-05 to about Rs.3 crore in 2005-06 registering an increase of 114 per cent. She further added that the Corporation extracted and converted 63, 730 cubic metres of timber and other wood, which was 11 per cent more than that converted during the previous year. It was procuring trees from farmers, panchayats and institutions within and from outside the State. The felling and conversion of trees from forests and non-forests lands was also being checked. Plantation on railway land in Delhi region on contractual basis was also being taken up. So far 1.24 lakh trees had been planted in the Delhi region on contractual basis to improve the green cover. Mrs. Choudhry disclosed that timber, pulp and firewood from depots would be sold through open auction.
