Telugu Desam alleges poll code violations

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party general secretary Kadiam Srihari has expressed outrage at what he termed "violations of code of conduct" by members of the Congress.

At a press conference here on Monday, he said the State Election Commission had made it clear while issuing the notification on June 10 that election code would come into immediate effect. Yet the Agriculture and Civil Supplies Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy made a statement saying the Government would continue with issue of ration cards, in violation of the code, he said and demanded suspension of the programme of issuing ration cards across the State until the election process was over.

Then the two Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah (Irrigation) and Redya Naik (Social Welfare) had openly promised voters in Warangal that they would get an exclusive reservoir and a school for Girijan children if they supported the Congress in the elections.

Formal protest

Mr. Srihari referred to SEC's unfulfilled promise that revised electoral rolls would be given to recognised political parties and demanded that copies be released immediately.

Mr. Srihari said party president N. Chandrababu Naidu would kickstart Tuesday's protest against the recent petrol hike by riding a bicycle from his residence on Road No. 68 to the party office.

Across the State, TDP leaders and cadres would stage "rasta roko" for at least an hour at noon, he said, requesting people and road-users to cooperate with the TDP in the nation-wide protest.
