Haryana crisis over `resignation' of MLA blows over

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The "crisis'' triggred by the "`resignation'' of the Congress MLA from Ambala Cantonment, D.K.Bansal, seems to have blown over following intervention by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's "trouble-shooter'' and Cabinet colleague, Venod Sharma.

Mr. Sharma, who is also the State Power and PWD Minister, represents the adjoining Ambala City constituency. Mr. Sharma was specially deputed by Mr. Hooda to have a heart-to-heart interaction with Mr. Bansal in Ambala to resolve his grievances relating to the "failure to initiate developmental activities'' in the predominantly urban constituency. The MLA has also been demanding withdrawal of the condition to produce a no-objection certificate before transfer of land. According to highly-placed sources, Mr. Sharma made it clear to the MLA that he should withdraw his "resignation faxed to Mr. Hooda on Saturday'' unconditionally before his "grievances'' could be amicably sorted out at the level of the Chief Minister himself.

Interestingly, Mr. Hooda spoke to Mr. Bansal telephonically and called him over for a meeting on June 13. Mr. Bansal later told media persons in the presence of Mr. Sharma and the Chief Minister's Media Adviser, Sunder Pal Singh, that he had "withdrawn'' his resignation unconditionally as he had been assured that the "grievances `' facing the constituency would be resolved at the earliest. He also made it clear that he had full faith in Mr. Hooda under whose leadership the State was progressing rapidly.
