PUDUKOTTAI: The State Government will take steps to fill vacancies in the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies A.V. Velu said here on Monday. Interacting with officials of the department at a meeting held at the Collectorate, Mr. Velu said they should monitor closely when the rice was being unloaded at the ration shops from the civil supplies godowns and they should initiate suitable action if any irregularities were detected. He said it was the duty of the officials to ensure that rice scheme was implemented properly, as the beneficiaries of the programme were poor people.
Kerosene
In order to ease the shortage of kerosene, the Chief Minister, during his recent visit to Delhi, had got 16 lakh litres of kerosene allocated for the State. The distribution would begin once the orders were received, the Minister said. Union Minister of State for Home S. Regupathy said there were over 3.95 lakh ration cardholders in the district and the public distribution system was being implemented through 881 ration shops. He sought the cooperation of the officials in the successful implementation of the rice scheme. Collector S. J. Chiru said the district administration was taking steps to supply quality rice to the people through the ration shops.The MLAs Udayam Shanmugam, R. M. Subburam, S. Rajasekaran and administration officials participated in the meeting.
