Chennai:
Members of the South India Tailors Welfare Association, on Sunday staged a hunger strike, to highlight their six-point charter of demands, including pension benefits.
M. Parthiban, general secretary of the association, said pension and gratuity should be given to tailors.
A separate welfare board should be set up for tailoring workers.
"The Board which was started during the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime between 1996 and 2001 was merged during the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam period with the Physical Work Labourers Welfare Board," he said.
