Benoy Viswom
What is uppermost in your mind when you become a Minister? To serve the people and, if possible, do something you would be remembered for by posterity. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom is no exception. During an informal chat with his friends and well-wishers, the new Forest Minister confided that his dream was to gain recognition for the State as the best forest in the world; also, `God's own country' should be known as the best place for wildlife. Benoy Viswom, who has travelled extensively as a student leader, has direct knowledge of conservation efforts in the world. No one faults the Minister for nurturing such ambitions. Such targets are not unachievable for `God's own country,' which has already caught world attention with its impressive indices of the physical quality of life. The Minister's laudable mission has been launched at a time when State's wildlife population and sandalwood forests are on the decline.
