Tarnaka Club overcomes JJ Nagar

HYDERABAD: Tarnaka club downed a fighting JJ Nagar Club 6-5 via tie-breaker in the preliminary round of the Sachdev Sports Cup football tournament at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here on Tuesday.

Mohsin Jaffer and Karthik struck once each for Tarnaka while Kapil netted a brace for the opponents to level the scores.

In the tie-breaker, Karthik, Manish, Zafar and Venkat scored for the winners while Kapil, Arun and Christopher were successful for the losers.

In another match, Dhanraj XI scored a 3-2 win against Bhavan's club (Sainikpuri) with inside-right Rahul scoring twice and Rakesh Loganathan once. For the vanquished, Mohsin and Mahesh were successful.

SCR triumphs

South Central Railway defeated AOC Centre 2-0 in the Super Six hockey championship organised by Hyderabad Hockey Association at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Tuesday. Amit Srivas netted the first goal in the 31st minute and in the second session, centre forward Prabhakar Singh was on target in the 59th minute.

Easy for AGORC

AGORC scored an easy 3-0 win against Rayalaseema Tigers in the A-Division Rahim league football championship at Barkas Grounds here. Ammuraj netted in the 10th minute and Zafar Ahmed of a solo in the 20th minute of second session. David Prasanna completed the tally in the 25th minute.

Prithvi in final

Prithvi Haas scored a 9-5 win against S.M.Osama to set up a title-clash with Mukund who got the better of Abhinav Macedo 9-1 in the boys under-10 semi-final of the second Twin Cities mini junior tennis tournament at SAAP Tennis Complex here.

The results (Semifinals): Boys' under-12: Supreet bt S.M. Osama 9-1; Mukund bt M. Sashank 9-2.

Under-10: Prithvi Haas bt S.M. Osama 9-5; Mukund bt Abhinav Macedo 9-1.

Girls' under-12: Tejaswini bt Vigna Reddy 9-1; Shaikh Amreen bt Seema Mirza 9-2.

Under-10: D. Sambhavi bt K. Bindiya 9-1; Shaikh Amreen bt V. Keertana 9-1.

Purushotham wins

Y.S. Purushotham outwitted Chandramurthy in the first round of the DRDO inter-zonal chess tournament organised by DLRL at Kanchanbagh here.

The results (1st round): Y.S. Purushotham bt Chandramurthy; G. Brahmaiah w/o Takeshore Kumanthem; K. Thirupalu lost to T.R. Venugopal; N.B. Jaglap bt J.V. Ramana; K. Sudarshan lost to P.K. Jena.

Kunal Kumar wins

Kunal Kumar of Artillery Centre won the men's 5-km run in the Secunderabad bicentenary celebrations meet organised by Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, here.

The results (Men 5-km): Kunal Kumar (Arty Centre), 2. Ram Singh, 3. Ajay Kumar. Women: 1. V. Lavanya (Hyd 10K), 2. V. Prabhavathi (Anam Computers), 3. G. Laxmi (SCR).

SAAP football

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh will organise Prize money open football tournament at Lal Bahadur Stadium from June 19 to 9, according to Aleem Khan, SAAP coach. Interested may contact Khan on Phone No. 98850 01762 before June 18 for further particulars.

Tennis camp

Match drawn

At Visakhapatnam, VDCA `B' restricted VDCA C to 174 and gained a lead of 90 runs in the drawn two-day match in the D.Ch. Tirupathi Raju Memorial tournament here on Tuesday. K. Bharat Reddy who scored a century earlier, picked up three wickets for VDCA `B'.

The scores: VDCA `B' 264 for nine in 90 overs drew with VDCA C 174 in 55 overs (Y. Gnaneswara Rao 60, G. Appanna 40, G. Brahmananda Reddy four for 31). — Special Correspondent

Kent CC posts win

At Visakhapatnam, Impressive spells by Srikanth (five for 42) and Nagesh (four for 71) complimented Mahesh Babu's good knock of 87 (9x4) as Kent CC beat Vizag Veterans by 44 runs in a rain-hit VDCA fifth division league match.

The scores: Kent CC 205 for nine in 34 overs (P. Mahesh Babu 87, Uday four for 28) bt Vizag Veterans 161 in 28.4 overs (Nageswara Rao 44, Srikanth five for 42, Nagesh four for 71).

Pat for Kadapa

hockey team

In Kadapa, the Kadapa Superintendent of Police, Y. Nagi Reddy, on Tuesday congratulated the Kadapa police hockey team which emerged winner at the 40th A.P. Police sports meet at Visakhapatnam. The Kurnool range hockey team comprising police personnel of Kadapa took part in the sports meet held from June 7 to 10. The Kadapa Police has won three hockey tournaments so far, according to a statement. — Staff Reporter
