Letters to the Editor
The editorial "When Saral is not simple" (June 10) has rightly asked why those who can easily conceal their incomes and escape the tax net are left out and a vast majority of honest salaried class is subjected to the task of compiling cash flow statements. I fail to understand why the income tax authorities are visibly unable to act against persons with huge professional/business incomes paying nominal/meagre tax but seek to penalise the salaried class from time to time.
Abhishek Bhatia,
The editorial rightly demands that the Government come up with "better means of catching those who conceal incomes than subjecting everyone to elaborate record-keeping." Thanks to The Hindu for taking up the cause of thousands of `voiceless' honest salaried persons who pay tax at source.
S.R. Badrinarayanan,
Coimbatore
