Chauhan Cabinet off to Pachmarhi for brainstorming session

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday afternoon left for Pachmarhi, the erstwhile summer capital of the State, for a two-day brainstorming session to draw a strategy for effective and smooth implementation of various programmes and policies and to review the working of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led State Government.

The Ministers assembled at the Chief Minister's official residence and left for Pachmarhi by a special luxury coach. BJP general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs, Ananth Kumar, State BJP unit president Satyanarain Jatia and State BJP general secretary in charge of organisational affairs, Kaptan Singh Solanki, also left for Pachmarhi by the same bus.

The Pachmarhi conclave, being described as a "Chintan Shivir' in State BJP circles, is being held at a time when the Government approaches the half-way mark of its five-year term. The BJP came to power in 2003 with a thumping majority but within a span of less than two years there have been three Chief Ministers in the State. Uma Bharti, who had led the party to victory and became Chief Minister, later had to resign under compelling circumstances. Now she is no longer with the BJP and heads a new political outfit. Her successor Babulal Gaur had a short stint and was replaced by Mr. Chauhan in December 2005 after Ms. Bharti and her supporters had revolted against Mr. Gaur.

While Ms. Bharti had tried to push through her agenda revolving around "panch-ja" -- five Js for Jal, Jungle, Jamin, Janwar, and Jan (water, forest, land, cattle and human resources), Mr. Gaur's thrust was on "Gokul Gram". Mr. Chauhan has moved further ahead and proclaimed that his foremost commitment is towards improving the lot of the farmers and the economically weaker sections.
