AG Karnataka to meet Tamil Nadu in final

BANGALORE: Accountant General Karnataka and AG Tamil Nadu set up a title clash in the IAAD South Zone table tennis tournament. AG Karnataka beat AG Kerala 3-0 in the semifinals while AG Tamil Nadu beat Andhra Pradesh 3-0.

Srivatsa (TN) entered the individual semifinal beating Sachin Kaushik (Karnataka).

Nagal Prasad (TN) beat Nanda Kumar (Kar), Praveen Joshi (Kar) defeated Christopher (TN) and Jayaram (AP) outlasted Suresh Babu (Kar) to also make the last four stage.

In the ladies section, Lathika Poosalingam of Karnataka beat Ammani of Kerala in the semi-final. The second semi-final is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Satyanarayana (TN) beat Vidhu Kumar (Kerala) in the first semifinal of the veteran's section. The second semifinal will be played on Wednesday.

Federation Cup kabaddi

The 26th edition of the Federation Cup kabaddi championships for men and women will be conducted by the South East Asian Education Trust Sports Club, under the aegis of the Karnataka Rajya Amateur Kabaddi Association at the SEA Campus from June 15 to 18.

Holders Indian Railways' men and women will once again be the hot favourites with challenge from Services and Punjab in the men's and Maharashtra and Punjab women expected to be intense. For the first time in Karnataka, synthetic mats will be in use in two courts while the other two courts will be mud courts. Matches are likely to be held in both daylight and under floodlights.

Veerappa Moily, former chief minister will inaugurate the championship while A. Krishnappa, MLA and chairman, SEA Group of Institutions is the chief Patron of the event.

The top teams: Men: Rjasthan, Punjab, Indian Railways, Haryana, Services, BSNL, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Women: Indian Railways, Maharashtra, HP, Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad and Punjab.

Pillappa, Swetha to lead

H.S. Pillappa of State Bank of Mysore and Swetha Naidu of KSP will captain the Karnataka men and women's team in the 26th Federation Cup kabaddi Championship to be held at the SEA College campus, near K.R. Puram here, from June 15 to 18.

The teams:

Men: H.S. Pillappa (Capt.), S. Murthy, Visakanta, Ramesh, Ravi Kumar, Sundar, Mahesh, Srinivas Raju, Manoj, Keerthi, Balaji, Rajesh Singh Yadav, Krishnappa and Arjun. Coach: A.K. Munivenkatappa. Manager: Muninaga.

Women: Swetha Naidu (captain), L. Jayanthi, Shashi, Padmavathi, Savitha, Savitha Bai, Ramya, Mamatha, Saraswathi, Kavitha, Pavithra, Bhagyalakshmi and Sushmitha Powar. Coach: Shivalingappa. Manager: Smt Sujatha Nagesh.

Tarun Ghogale leads

With a score of five under 67, Tarun Ghogale led in the opening round of the Eagleton Amateur Golf championship. He came up with four birdies and no blemish to end up with a score of 32 on the last nine holes. Tarun had two birdies and a bogey on the first nine holes.

Anirban Lahiri, G. Saibaba and Gaganjeet Bhullar shared the second spot with scores of four under 68. Three players also shared the tied fifth spot with Gaurav Pratap Singh, Joseph Chakola and Keshav Kapoor playing to three under 69.

UBA badminton tournament

Ubhaykar Badminton Academy will conduct the third Tata Indicom junior championship at the Karnataka Badminton Association courts here from July 1 to 4. According to the organisers, the State-level championship is a Three Star tournament. Entries close on June 24. For details, contact Narendra Ubhaykar at 92422 25159.
