KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the Government to prohibit smoking in public places and to ban tobacco advertisement in the print media. The advertisement ban in electronic media has been in place for the last 10 years. The Court has also asked the Government to formulate a comprehensive anti-tobacco legislature and to define what public place means. It has not set any deadline for such ban. Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Rajendra Prasad Koirala passed the order on Tuesday. Advocate Prakash Mani Sharma of Pro-Public, an NGO, had filed the public interest litigation.
