Ameer bags best director award for Ram

CHENNAI:
After getting two Cyprus awards, one for best film and another for best actor for Jeeva, Tamil movie Ram has now got the Sri Sankaradass Swamigal award for the movie's director, Ameer. The Directorate of Information and Publicity of the Union Territory along with the Directorate of Film Festival, New Delhi, and Navadharshan Film Society, Pondicherry, selected the recipient for the award. Every year the organisations come together to conduct the Indian Panorama, an Indian film festival, with films selected by the Directorate of Film Festivals. During the festival, the award is given to the best director of the film that participates in the Indian Film Festival in Pondicherry.
Director Bharatiraaja (in 2002 for Kadal Pookkal) and Mani Ratnam (in 2003 for Kannathil Muthamittaal) have received the awards. In 2004 the director of a Malayalam film bagged the award.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000 along with a memento. The Chief Minister of Pondicherry will present the award later this year.
