FOR VALUE-BASED EDUCATION: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of the building complex of Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra near Dharwad on Tuesday.
DHARWAD: One should remember that education system with all its maladies and weaknesses and is still the nursery of the future greatness of a nation, Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has said. He was presiding over the inaugural function of the building of the Rasthrotthana Vidya Kendra situated 12 km from Dharwad n Tuesday. The Governor said if the foundation of education was not strong, the edifice built on it would not be strong. Developing "mature citizens" was the need of the hour, he said. The Governor said there was a need to make the children realise the essence of self-dependence through proper education.
Appeal
Delivering "Aashirvachanam", Sri Sri Ravi Shankar appealed to politicians not to divide society on the basis of religion and caste. "Our children have come out of the barriers of caste and religion and are moving towards creating a casteless society. Don't become an obstacle in their path," he told the gathering. Underscoring the need for changing the present education system, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said moral values should be inculcated in children through the process of education. Rama Jois, former Governor of Bihar and Jharkhand, described "dharma" as internal policing system, which needed to be "instilled" in the minds of children. Explaining the objectives of the Rashtrotthana Parishat, Shripati Shastry, former Professor of Poona University, said: "Because not much importance is given to making the children imbibe the moral values, today we have educated people without moral values," he said. Dinesh Hegde spoke about the Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra, Dharwad. K. Suryanarayana Rao, Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh Pramukh, released a book "Sididedda Bharata" written by Nagaraj on the occasion. S.S. Patil Kadaganti, Vice-President of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gulbarga, appealed to Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra to set up a similar educational institution in Gulbarga. Some of the philanthropists who helped in constructing the school building were felicitated on the occasion. Vidyanand Shenoy, Member of Managing Committee of Rashtrotthana Parishat, welcomed the gathering.
