CHENNAI: The Association of University Teachers (AUT) on Tuesday welcomed the decision of the Tamil Nadu Government to constitute a high-level committee to check irregularities in granting affiliation to B.Ed colleges during 2005-2006. The AUThowever urged the committee to put an end to the exploitation of parents and their wards. Till 2004-2005, only 36 B.Ed colleges were granted affiliation by various universities in the State on the no-objection certificates issued by the State Government and the National Council for Teacher Education. However, during 2005-2006 affiliation was granted to 130 colleges, most of them self-financing institutions. Only a thorough probe would bring to light the inroads market forces had made, the AUT release said.
