Left parties to continue agitation till complete rollback is effected

ON WARPATH: TDP workers protesting against fuel price hike near Kotipalli bus stand in Rajahmundry on Tuesday

Srikakulam: Activists of the Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxists) organised dharnas separately, affecting traffic in the busy areas of the town on Tuesday. They were protesting against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.

While the TDP headed by the party MP, Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu, MLA, G.Shyam Sundar Sivaji, and former Minister G.Appala Suryanarayana organised rasta roko at the seven roads junction, the CPI(M) led by party district unit secretary, Choudary Tejeswara Rao staged dharna at Ram-Lakshman junction. The CPI(M) leaders vowed to continue the agitation till hiked prices were rolled back completely.

Steep hike

Addressing a meeting of party workers, Mr. Yerrannaidu pointed out that prices of petrol and diesel had gone up by Rs.16.50 and Rs.11.50 respectively in the last two years of United Progressive Alliance regime. Half of what we pay was the price of fuel, the other half was tax pocketed by the State and Central Governments, Mr. Naidu pointed out.

Traffic block

Why should there be hike in price of petrol products when petroleum companies were making huge products, Mr. Sitaram asked.

In Rajahmundry too TDP and Left parties staged dharnas and blocked road traffic. TDP dharna was led by former minister Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and Ganni Krishna and district secretaries of CPI and CPI(M), Meesala Satyanarayana and Dadala Subbarao led the Left parties' protests.

TDP city unit led by Adireddy Apparao and all the frontal organizations of the party including Telgugu Mahila participated in dharna. Traffic was disrupted for more than an hour near NTR statue, Kotipalli bus stand. The Left parties also held dharna near Syamala talkies.
