dated June 14, 1956: Take-over of gold mines

The Union Minister for Natural Resources, Mr. K.D. Malaviya, told pressmen in Bangalore on June 12 that since the Mysore Government had decided to nationalise the gold mines at Kolar Gold Fields, "we have to help them as much as we can. But we do not want to create any feeling amongst our foreign friends who have been developing our industries that we want to be hasty and unfair to any party." Mr. Malaviya disclosed that the Mysore Government and the mining companies had not come to an agreement in regard to the quantum of compensation.
