CPI (M) against tie-up with Congress in Kurnool

Staff Reporter

Ruling party accused of indulging in delaying tactics

KURNOOL: The CPI (M) district unit announced withdrawal from talks with the Congress for an electoral understanding in the local bodies election. Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Party MLA M.A. Gafoor and district secretary T. Shadrak said they were serious about having an understanding with the Congress, but its leadership was misleading them.

They said on the invitation of the Congress, the District Secretary and others visited twice a day for three days. According to them, the Congress asked for their wish, collected the details of the places where the CPI (M) intended to contest but did not say a single word about the number it wanted to offer.

The CPI (M) leaders alleged that the Congress was indulging in "delaying tactics" so that the Left party would go to the poll unprepared. They criticised that the Congress was not fair to allies as it wanted to prey on "friends" and grow.

Explaining the strategy the CPI (M) wanted to adopt in the changed circumstances, Mr. Gafoor said the Divisional Committees of the party was given freedom to ally with any party except the BJP in their respective constituencies. Mr. Shadrak said the TDP had got in touch with them but they did not promise anything keeping in mind the talks with the Congress.

He said the CPI (M) would also campaign along with the allies in the local bodies. Even if the Congress leaders come forward for a truck at divisional level, the CPI (M) would not mind, he said.
