HYDERABAD: A paramedical board to regulate the functioning of diagnostic laboratories, X-ray clinics and other institutions to ensure safety standards is being set up by the State in a month. An ordinance will be issued as the Cabinet has already approved the establishment of the board, according to Principal Secretary (Health) I.V. Subba Rao. All laboratories and clinics dealing in X-ray, ultra sound, CT scan and similar diagnostics would have to compulsorily seek recognition from the board, he told The Hindu . He said that the board would devise the syllabus, course content, examination and evolve a "quality assurance mechanism" for paramedical institutions before granting recognition. Besides, all paramedical personnel would have to get registered with the board. Establishing a body like an accreditation committee would also be considered to ensure constant monitoring of the laboratories and paramedical institutes. The Atomic Energy Commission had also suggested to the Government to set up a Radiation Council and ensure safety standards in clinics/institutes dealing in X-ray and other radiation equipment. "I will soon have a meeting with radiation and cancer experts in this regard," he added.
