Enters into poll agreement with Telugu Desam Party

  • Plan to contest 58 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies
  • To field candidates in all places where the party is strong
  • No agreement with Congress on any seat

GUNTUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has entered into an agreement with the Telugu Desam Party in Guntur district to contest four ZPTC seats and 58 MPTCs.

Following failure of talks with the Congress, CPI(M) district secretary D. Rama Devi and Rythu Sangham secretary P. Narasimha Rao held in-camera talks with TDP district leaders at the TDP district office on Tuesday to finalise their poll alliance.

    Decision on tie-up

"We have decided to contest from all the places where we are strong and will not agree to any kind of adjustment. If any non-BJP party comes forward to support us, we will reciprocate in other places," said Mr. Narasimha Rao.

    Talks fail

District Congress Committee president Muppalaneni Seshagiri Rao telephoned the CPI(M) on Tuesday afternoon and informed them that talks between them were called off.

"He informed us that there will be no agreement on any seat in the district," said Ms. Rama Devi.

The CPI(M) proposes to the ZPTCs -- Mangalagiri (SC Woman), Muppalla (general), Yedlapadu (SC general) and Kolluru (OC woman) -- and 16 MPTCs in Tadepalli, eight in Mangalagiri, three in Krosuru, two each in Phirangipuram, Rompicherla, Kolluru Repalle, Nuzendla, Bhattiprolu, Bapatla and Sattenapalli and one each in Gurazala, Duggirala, Savalyapuram, Dachepalli, Bollapalli, Nakarekallu, Pedakakani, Muppalla, Pedanandipadu and Narsaraopet mandals.
