MANGALORE: Minister in-charge of the district B. Nagaraja Shetty has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to upgrade the sub- jail and shift it to Kudupu village on National Highway 13. In an appeal sent to Mr. Yediyurappa, Mr. Shetty said the 34 acres of land had been identified in the village for the purpose was with Mangalore Urban Development Authority. The land was located within the limits of the corporation, but 16 acres were in the possession of private parties. It might have to be acquired by the Government, he added. Mr. Shetty stressed the need for a modern jail in the district. The proposed land had been identified by a committee headed by the local MLA. He said that the acquisition process had to start immediately, and urged Mr. Yediyurappa to release the funds soon.
Court complex
He urged the Government to release Rs. 3.75 crore for taking up the second phase of development of the court complex in Mangalore. A sum of Rs. 1.05 crore required for the first phase had been released. Mr. Shetty urged Mr. Yediyurappa to release Rs. 10 crore for flood relief work in the district.
