Man beaten to death

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A 60-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by his son's father-in-law following an altercation over the dowry given to his son at Ghatkesar on the city outskirts on Monday night.

Swami, 60, was working as watchman of a function hall at Kondapur in Ghatkesar. Recently, his son got married. On Monday evening, Narsimha's in-laws - Anjaiah and Lingamma - came to Kondapur to see their daughter. After the newly-wed couple went out to watch a movie, Swami and Narsimha began consuming liquor. "After getting drunk, the two entered into an argument over the dowry amount given to Narsimha," the police said. Anjaiah allegedly beat Swami with a stick. He and his wife fled after Swami collapsed. On return, Narsimha saw his father lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
