City exempted from poll code

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The State Election Commission (SEC) has given green signal for normal administrative work to go on as planned by exempting Hyderabad district from the provisions of the model code of conduct for Panchayat Raj elections. Following election notification, the code of conduct has come into force and it is to be effective till results are announced. Hyderabad district Collectorate and the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad have sought clarification from SEC on this count. SEC Secretary G.N. Rao has stated that there is no restriction on the activities of both the departments.

Therefore, the Hyderabad district administration could continue the exercise of issue of fresh ration cards that is currently under way since there is no panchayat under its jurisdiction.
