Two children killed in accident

KOCHI: Two children were killed in an accident which took place near their house at Chunangamveli, near Aluva, on Tuesday night. The Aluva Traffic Police said that Shabana, 4, and her brother Shahanas, 2, children of Salim, were killed after the pick-up van in which they were playing rolled on and fell into a deep ditch near their house. The incident took place at 7 p.m. - Staff Reporter

Two killed in bike accident

KOCHI: A motorist and a pedestrian were killed in an accident at Companyppady, Aluva, on Tuesday night. The Aluva Traffic Police said that Krishnankutty Nair, 56, of Thaikattukara was knocked down by a bike driven by Vinayakumar of Perumbavoor. Both of them succumbed to their injuries. - Staff Reporter

College managements' stand criticised

KOCHI: The Kerala Latin Catholic Association has deplored the attitude of some private college managements that students should pay Rs.3.15 lakhs as annual fees. In a press release issued here, Felix J. Pulloden, president of the Association, said that the Government should take over such colleges. He said that many private colleges levy huge amounts as capitation fee, in addition to the normal fees. It is sad that even some Christian managements have begun to collect hefty sums as fee from students. This is against the tenets of service that they hitherto stood for, Mr. Pulloden said. - Staff Reporter

ABVP flays Government

KOCHI: The ABVP has condemned the attitude of the State Government that the issue of fee structure in self-financing colleges can be solved through conciliatory talks. This goes against the declared stand of the Government that deserving students need not pay heavy fees for professional courses, State president of the organisation A. Vinod said. - Staff Reporter

MSW entrance

KOCHI: The rank list of the MSW entrance test held on May 31 for admission to the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has been published, says a press release issued by the university. - Staff Reporter

Allegations denied

KOCHI: The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has denied allegations that the SC/ST Cell of the university was not functioning. In a press release, the university has said that M.K. Krishnadas is the section officer of the cell. The strike by students on the issue of granting fellowships was without knowing the real facts of the issue, the statement added. - Staff Reporter
