Helmet rule to be enforced from August

Rider and those riding pillion will have to comply with the rule

BANGALORE: The State Cabinet has decided to make wearing helmet by both by the rider and those riding pillion compulsory for all two wheelers from August 1 in compliance with the directions of the Karnataka High Court.

Speaking to presspersons after a Cabinet meeting, which discussed 24 subjects here on Tuesday, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraja Horatti said the rule was to come into force from July 1, but it was decided to give additional time of one month.

The Cabinet had approved the State North East Transport Corporation and the North West (Gulbarga region) Transport Corporation to avail a loan of Rs. 30 crore and Rs. 100 crore, respectively for the development purposes, including the purchase of buses, he added.

The Cabinet had decided to increase the licence fee of moneylenders from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000, he said.
