BMP sets up cell to provide information to citizens

Staff Reporter

It has been set up on the directions of the State Chief Information Commissioner

  • Citizens had to visit jurisdictional ward offices for collecting information
  • Training programme to be organised for BMP officials on Right to Information Act
  • Circular directing officials to provide information sought by citizens to be issued

BANGALORE: To facilitate dissemination of information pertaining to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) through a single window and also implement the Right to Information Act, the civic body has set up an exclusive information cell at its head office.

Till now, citizens had to visit the jurisdictional ward offices or the Assistant Public Information Officer concerned for information under the Right to Information Act. The cell was being set up to avoid such inconveniences to citizens, BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj said in a press release.

Officials posted at the cell, which had been set up as per the directions of the State Chief Information Commissioner, would receive applications from citizens seeking information under the Act. They would forward the applications to the officials concerned, collect the required information from them and provide it to the citizens.

To create awareness about this Act among the BMP officials, a training programme has been organised on July 1 in coordination with the National School of Law, the release said.

A circular directing all officials to adhere to the rules and provide all information sought by citizens would be issued shortly. The cell would be computerised and all applicants would be given an acknowledgement, the release said.

The cell being headed by the BMP Council Secretary Ateeq Ahmed comprises Deputy Commissioner (Welfare) Neelakantha, swimming instructor C.M. Jayaprakash and another employee Varalakshmi, the release added.
