Call to maintain road networks as per pre-1964 survey records

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil : The Nagercoil People's Forum has urged the district administration to maintain road networks in the district as per the pre-1964 survey records.

The forum also sought expedition of implementation of the construction of a flyover at Kottar junction, subways near Anna bus stand, Chettikulam, Veppamoodu junction and much needed bypass to Nagercoil for de-congesting traffic within the town limit.

Speaking at the monthly council meeting, which was convened here on Monday, Devasakayan, a retired PWD engineer, said that because of constant encroachment on district roads, the State Highways and the National Highways and the absence of subways and bypass roads had contributed to the traffic congestion on all arterial roads in Nagercoil, Thuckalay, Marthandam and Kanyakumari.

While the village roads should have a breadth of 12 to 20 feet, the National Highways have a breadth of 80 to 120 feet, he said.
