CHENNAI: Genesis Welfare Trust is making an ambitious bid to improve the lives of those living with HIV and AIDS with the launch of a series of programmes to help people living with HIV and AIDS in fund-raising and management. Genesis will also help create opportunities for them to develop strong linkages within the local resource setting. It plans to conduct 10 programmes with local donors, two training programmes on fund-raising and two programmes with mediapersons. The intervention's aim is to benefit directly 21 persons in three districts. The trust secretary, R. Thangathurai, said that HIV/AIDS affected people were being given sewing machines and training to use them. They will also get marketing support. K. Manivasan, Joint Commissioner (health department) in the Chennai Corporation, was the chief guest at the first programme conducted to donate sewing machines to the beneficiaries on Saturday. The current drive against HIV/AIDS is focused on preventing people from getting infected.
