HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has accused Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of resorting to unfair means to ensure victory for Congress candidates in the coming local body polls.

Re-enters TDP

Dr. Reddy was encouraging enrolment of bogus voters, resorting to strong arm tactics and using the police to intimidate people, he told a meeting organised in connection with the re-entry of former Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad chairman, K.S. Ratnam, into TDP on Wednesday. Mr. Ratnam who was the TRS general secretary and spokesman was immediately expelled from the primary membership of TRS. Mr. Naidu charged the Government with misusing official machinery and its guesthouses. The distribution of ration cards was also used for political gains. "Distribution of cards is not enough, they must give rations," he said adding that the TDP was not against cards going to the needy.

He accused the Congress of cashing in on the development all round the State capital during the TDP regime by resorting to real estate business. Memorandum

Meanwhile, a TDP delegation submitted a memorandum to State Election Commissioner A.V.S. Reddy alleging violation of the model code of conduct for the Panchayat Raj elections by the ruling Congress party.

The delegation, which included former Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav and Karnam Balram Krishna Murthy drew the Commission's attention to several advertisements carrying photographs of Congress leaders published to publicise Government schemes. They alleged that one Sangireddy Krishna Murthy, brother-in-law of Marketing Minister, Botsa Satyanarayana, was appointed election officer of Cheepurupalli mandal. Similarly, the TDP said Luxettipet MDO Seshadri was appointed election officer of Luxettipet Assembly constituency at the instance of a local Congress leader, who is his brother. They said the officials had not furnished voters' lists to the political parties.
