The best seat to watch the football World Cup will always be in your drawing room, in front of the television set. But what do you do when on the road and Brazil is playing a crucial match? Don't worry; you can follow every minute of it on the radio. The Kozhikode FM station of All India Radio (AIR) is broadcasting many late night matches live from Germany. And the good news is that the BBC is providing the commentary. So you can enjoy the quality stuff from BBC's Radio Five, a channel dedicated to live sports coverage, which also broadcasts the hugely popular Test Match Special, the ball-by-ball commentary on international cricket matches in England. The response to the football broadcasts on Kozhikode FM has been tremendous, says C.P. Rajasekharan, Station Director. "So many listeners have already called us up to thank us," he said. "Since our FM station covers many areas outside Kozhikode as well, including certain regions in Kannur, Malappuaram and Wayanad, there are many listeners for the World Cup commentary." Because of the World Cup, Kozhikode FM station's service is extended up to 2 a.m., with the station airing Vividh Bharati's Rainbow programmes, featuring plenty of popular music, from Delhi from 11.05 p.m. "We may continue to air the Rainbow service even after the World Cup is over," the Station Director said. "We are always trying to give the very best to our listeners. And our ad revenue is growing fast. The Kozhikode FM this year has recorded the highest ad revenue among its peers in Kerala; we sold slots worth Rs. 40 lakhs."
