Improve drainage facilities, Minister tells officials

SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam instructed the Salem Corporation officials to expedite execution of development works in the city.

Inspecting the works in the city on Wednesday, the Minister directed the civic officials to take steps to improve drainage facilities and roads in all the parts of the city.

The Minister visited Nethaji Nagar, Pachi Udaiyar Kadu, Lakshmi Nagar, Adaikkala Nagar, Mettu Mariamman Temple Street, Itteri Road, Subarayan Layout and Govinda Pillai Samy Street in Ward 13.

Roadworks

Pointing out the damaged roads in these areas, he asked the Corporation Commissioner to take up road improvement works immediately.

While visiting the residential colonies near the Manakkadu Kamarajar Corporation Higher Secondary School, he listened to the grievances of the residents.

The Minister instructed the officials to provide more street lights to the colonies.

He instructed the civic officials to take steps to create proper drainage facilities in Johnsonpet and the nearby areas where he saw stagnation of wastewater. He also inspected the development works taken up in wards 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

Corporation Commissioner A.M. Selvam, City Engineer R. Vijayakumar and other senior officials accompanied the Minister.
