MADURAI : Karthik of Dindigul entered the quarterfinals defeating P. Chandrasekar of Union Club 74-29, 54-14 in snooker singles of the Kasim Residency City open billiards and snooker tournament at Pot Black Centre here on Thursday.

Ratnakaran begins well

At Tiruchi, top seed K. Ratnakaran of Southern Railway defeated Dinesh S. Gupta of Maharashtra in the first round of the first Tiruchi international FIDE-rated open chess tournament here on Thursday.

In another encounter, Tamil Nadu State champion B.T. Muralikrishna of Southern Railway beat Gokulakrishna.
