Tarapur Unit 3 synchronised with grid

Special Correspondent

NPCIL hopes to operate the unit commercially by next month

MUMBAI: The Unit 3 of the Tarapur Power Project (TAPP) that went critical on May 21 was synchronised with the power grid on Thursday, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India said in a press release.

The time taken between criticality and synchronisation was about one-fourth of what it took for Unit 4 took last year.

Unit 3 was in the process of conducting mandatory tests and it was generating `infirm power,' the release said.

The Corporation hopes to operate the unit commercially by next month when the tests would be over and the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board gives its authorisation.

The two units of 540 MWe each are India's largest and most advanced nuclear power plants. They are fully indigenous.
